Advice to my 20 year old self

Last week I recorded a podcast with the very lovely Amy Young from The Female Front, who has a similar mission to mine – supporting women in tech.

A big question

I can’t wait for you to hear it once it’s aired – we talked about the challenges women face in career progression, and what can be done about it, why I made my career pivot and my 2024 goals and dreams! Yes you can all hold me accountable!

The final question Amy asked me, got me reaaaaaaal good…!

“what three things would you tell your 20 year old self?”

My poor 20 year old self was full of angst, outwardly confident, inwardly scared.

Wanna be Perfectionist, full of doubt and not good-enough-ness…

If I could go back in time I’d say these three things:

  1. Drop the ego!
Try things out without attaching meaning to the outcome.
    You’ll win or you’ll learn.
Don’t be afraid of other peoples judgment
  1. Title don’t mean sh*t!
They differ from country to company.
    They are just another label.
Understand who you are at your core.
    Don’t chase status, it’s a false mission.
  1. Being authentically you is your superpower.
I wasn’t born to fit in, so purposefully stand out and be proud of who you are.
As Dolly Parton says ‘Find out who you are and do it on purpose’

Simples.

What would you tell your 20 year old self?

I was scrolling on LinkedIn –

as I do every day… it’s literally my favourite platform these days.

A comment on someone else’s post caught my eye…
